About this statute
This provision says the regulation applies to manufacturers, importers, sellers, and others in Finland who place smoke alarms on the market or provide them for use. This provision defines “brandvarnare” as a device that detects smoke and gives an acoustic alarm, and defines the smoke-alarm standard as the harmonised standard SFS-EN 14604. Smoke alarms must meet the smoke-alarm standard, electrical safety requirements, and—if they use radioactive substances and ionization—radiation safety requirements. Their alarm signal must be at least 85 dBA at three meters, and mains-powered alarms must keep working during a power outage. Smoke detectors must be CE marked and come with written instructions in Finnish and Swedish.
