Statute overview

About this statute

This section defines “status as an alternative protection beneficiary” and “international protection.” A Schengen visa may be extended and the number of stay days may be increased if there are special reasons and the visa’s grant conditions are still met. Vissa myndigheter och missions abroad may issue Schengen visas and related visa extensions or increases in permitted stay. A residence permit generally requires the foreigner to have a valid travel document, but it may still be granted in certain cases listed in the provision. Residence permits based on refugee status or alternative protection are granted for four years.
