About this statute
Technical interception, optical surveillance, and technical tracking may only be used when there is reasonable cause to suspect certain customs-related offences, with different severity thresholds for the measures. A person who intentionally or through gross negligence breaches a customs declaration duty or another duty under customs legislation can be fined for a customs offense, unless a stricter penalty applies elsewhere or the act is a minor customs accounting offense.
