Statute overview

About this statute

The supervisory authority may, on application, approve a licensed doctor as a ship’s doctor if the doctor meets the stated licensing and training requirements. A seamen’s doctor’s employer must ensure the doctor takes continuing training at least every five years; the training duty also applies to self-employed seamen’s doctors. The Supervisory Authority for Welfare and Health must provide a list of approved ship doctors. Social- och hälsovårdsministeriet kan utfärda närmare bestämmelser genom förordning, och Delegationen för sjömansärenden ska höras innan förordningen utfärdas. This section sets the commencement date, repeals an earlier ministry decision, and preserves a continuing right for certain previously approved seaman doctors.
