Statute overview

About this statute

Blood service institutions need a permit, must report significant changes, and permit applications must include specified operational details. A blood service establishment must notify the medicines safety and development centre of the name of the responsible person and that person’s deputy. Blood service institutions and blood banks must have a quality system covering documentation, staff, and premises; blood service institutions also need one for blood donation practice. Blood service institutions must report serious risks and harmful effects to the medicines safety authority without delay; healthcare units must report relevant events to the blood service institution. Blood donors must be given required pre-donation information, told that the information is confidential, and asked for identity, necessary health, and signature details.
