Statute overview

About this statute

Alcohol brought by passengers may not be consumed onboard ships or other vehicles, and served alcohol may not be taken away from a ship’s serving area or from the serving area on a train in international traffic. The authority may, for special reasons, limit sales areas or sales times on board ships or other transport, or issue rules on handing over alcoholic beverages to passengers. The supervisory authority may inspect vessels and other transport, access needed notifications and documents, and issue rules on bookkeeping and disclosure of data for supervision. The traffic operator must file a written notice with the health and social services supervisory authority before selling alcohol to passengers on certain Finnish ships. The Authority may allow alcohol sales on a ship in port or on a ship traveling between two Finnish ports, if there are special reasons and the Authority sets the conditions.
