Statute overview

About this statute

This section says the regulation applies to animal welfare in keeping turkeys. This provision defines “kalkon” as a bird of the species Meleagris gallopavo ssp. People who care for turkeys must be prepared for emergencies and have rescue and fire-fighting equipment available. Turkey housing must have suitable furnishings, materials, flooring, space, bedding, and nests so the birds can behave naturally and stay healthy. A turkey housing facility must have suitable ventilation, temperature, lighting, and noise levels, and certain mechanical ventilation systems must have alarms and regular testing.
