Statute overview

About this statute

This provision says the regulation applies to the restriction area established because of confirmed VHS disease cases in fish farming facilities in Åland, and that the area covers Åland and its water areas. Fish farms in the restriction area must report unusual fish mortality or suspected VHS disease to the provincial veterinarian without delay, and certain fish movements and by-products must follow specified EU rules; some healthy fish slaughter waste may be used as feed for fur animals if pretreated. Wild fish and their gametes moved to a farm outside the restriction area must follow section 2 requirements, and planting out wild fish species and their gametes outside the restriction area is prohibited. Equipment and vehicles used for transporting or raising farmed fish must be cleaned and disinfected before leaving the restricted area; some items need written permission or must not be returned. At affected facilities in a restriction area where VHS disease has been detected, the rules issued by the provincial veterinarian also apply.
