About this statute

The Institute for the Languages of Finland is a government agency within the administrative branch of the Ministry of Education and Culture. The institute’s purpose is to promote language use in society as an expert body on language issues. Language boards exist for Finnish, Swedish, Sami, sign language, and Romani, and they must issue general or principled recommendations on language use within their respective areas.
