Statute overview

About this statute

This section defines “requirements for vehicle accessibility” as requirements that invalid taxis and accessible taxis must meet as separately prescribed. The permit authority must hold at least one taxi-permit application round per year when permits are available, inform applicants about application times and ranking basis, and use specified documents and methods to assess taxi-driving experience. A taxi permit may not be sold or otherwise transferred. If a permit held by a legal person is transferred, the legal person must apply for a new permit within six months, unless the transfer is without consideration to a close relative in the specified case. Certain taxi permit holders must report on-call shifts when demand is low, and updated on-call information must be provided via phone service or a website. A regional ELY Centre may stop a dispatch centre’s operations, stop it from starting, require changes, and attach a fine if the service is inadequate.
