Statute overview

About this statute

Hunting may require a hunting licence or compliance with a regional quota, and the Finnish Wildlife Agency issues licences and oversees quota hunting. For hunting certain deer species, a hunting licence is required, and Finlands viltcentral grants the licence. Finlands viltcentral must issue a free new hunting licence instead of the previous one if a shot deer is damaged or sick so that more than half is unfit for human food, and the problem was not caused by the licence holder. Statsrådet may issue more detailed rules on deer hunting permits, conditions, equipment, hunting leader duties, hunting organization, and what information must be reported and when/how it must be reported. This section points readers to 3 § in the animal welfare act for rules on causing animals unnecessary pain or distress.
