Statute overview

About this statute

The provision bans the use of certain fishing gear and fishing methods in order to protect the Saimaa ringed seal’s living conditions and reproduction in its main distribution areas. Certain fishing gear and fishing methods are prohibited within the main distribution areas of the Saimaa ringed seal, but angling, ice fishing, and lure fishing are exempt. Section 3 lists the water areas in Saimen that count as the Saimaa ringed seal’s main distribution areas, and excludes certain island lakes and ponds. This provision says the regulation starts on 1 May 2011, ends on 30 April 2016, and repeals a named earlier regulation.
