Statute overview

About this statute

This section defines “priestly office,” “priest,” and “priestly post.” The chapter board may grant resignation from the priestly office on application, warn priests, suspend them for 1 to 6 months, remove them from office in specified cases, and restore the office on request after loss. A priest who is temporarily suspended from the priestly office is not eligible for certain church offices and does not have the voting rights that come with the priesthood. The field bishop belongs to the archdiocese, and the other military chaplains belong to the diocese where their principal place of service is located. An employer in this chapter includes certain church bodies, and the employer must have enough staff to carry out its tasks.
