About this statute
When a passport application is submitted, the applicant must provide a signature specimen. If the applicant cannot write or cannot give a specimen because of injury, illness, or a similar reason, a line is used in the passport instead of a signature. A guardian gives consent for a minor’s passport application by signing the consent section, and a written, specific consent must be attached for guardians who are not personally present when the application is submitted.
