Statute overview

About this statute

This chapter is about offences against public order. A person who causes significant disturbance in the listed ways may be fined, unless the act is punishable elsewhere in law. Unauthorized intrusion into a home-protected place, staying there unlawfully, disturbing someone’s home peace, or repeatedly messaging/calling to disturb someone can be punished by a fine or up to six months’ imprisonment. This section makes defamation punishable by a fine when someone makes a false statement or insinuation, or otherwise humiliates another person, in a way likely to cause harm, suffering, or contempt.
