About this statute
If an immigrant without a valid reason refuses to take part in an integration plan, a review of the plan, or an agreed measure in the plan, unemployment benefits may be restricted or social assistance reduced. During an integration plan, the immigrant may receive unemployment benefit or income support. An immigrant participating in voluntary education has a right to unemployment benefit if the conditions in this law and the unemployment security law are met. Voluntary studies that promote immigrants’ integration and employment may be supported with unemployment benefit only if they are in Finnish or Swedish, or mainly in Finnish or Swedish. Literacy studies may also be supported. The municipality is reimbursed for certain income-support costs.
