Two people who have agreed to marry each other are considered engaged. Två personer får ingå äktenskap inför en finsk myndighet under vissa lagvalsvillkor, och de förlovade måste visa upp godtagbar utredning om rätten att gifta sig enligt främmande lag. A marriage entered into in a foreign state before that state’s authority is valid in Finland if it is valid in the state where it was entered into, or in the state where either spouse lived or was a citizen at that time.
