Statute overview

About this statute

Rubriken anger att detta är kapitel 6 om social- och hälsovård. The prison health-care unit must arrange healthcare and medical rehabilitation for detained persons’ medical needs, and the criminal sanctions authority must ensure detainees can access that care. A detainee may, with a prison-health-unit doctor’s permission and at their own expense, receive medication, examinations, and other healthcare in prison if it does not jeopardize the purpose of detention. A detained person who is sick or injured must be sent outside the prison for care or examination under necessary supervision if proper care or examination cannot be provided at the prisoner health care unit. The state pays for health care, medical care, and medical rehabilitation needed by detainees, and outside-prison examinations or treatment must be prescribed or approved by a doctor at the Prison Health Care Unit. A doctor at the Prisoners’ Health Care Unit decides on medication, possession of medicines, examinations, and other healthcare for detainees in prisons; a dentist decides on dental care.
