About this statute
Foreign divorce, separation, annulment, or invalidity decisions are recognized in Finland without special confirmation, unless one of the listed exceptions applies. Helsinki District Court may decide, on application, whether a foreign decision is recognised in Finland, and it must let the other spouse be heard when the stated conditions are met. Sections 121 and 122 apply only if no Council regulation referred to in section 119(5) or treaty binding Finland provides otherwise. This law enters into force on 1 January 2016.
