Statute overview

About this statute

A trader involved in a cartel may avoid a penalty fee if it submits a company statement plus information and evidence to the Competition and Consumer Authority in time, but not if it pressured another trader to join the cartel. Some undertakings in a cartel case may get a reduced penalty fee if they give the competition authority significant information and evidence before it gets it elsewhere. Applications for leniency or a penalty reduction must be filed with the Finnish Competition and Consumer Authority, which may set a deadline and issue a written decision. This section says that rules on compensation for damage caused by breaches of certain competition-law prohibitions are found in the competition damages act, and it states that the law enters into force on 26 December 2016.
