About this statute
The board meets when called by the chairperson, or the vice chairperson if the chairperson is unavailable, decides cases on presentation by the secretary, uses simple majority voting, and the chairperson’s view breaks ties. Minutes must be signed by the chairperson and countersigned by the secretary. This section sets minimum study requirements for legal-interpreting studies used for registration as a court interpreter. An applicant for renewed registration, or where the register requires proof, must show continued ability to perform legal interpretation. This section sets out a written declaration for an interpreter: they must work conscientiously, independently, and to the best of their ability, and must not use or unlawfully disclose information learned in the assignment for personal gain or anyone else’s benefit or harm. Registration certificates must state the interpreter’s name and personal identity number, the basis for registration, the registration date and validity period, and how validity can be checked. The certificate is signed by the chair and secretary of the registration board, or by the vice chair and secretary if the chair is unavailable.
