Statute overview

About this statute

This chapter is titled “General provisions.” This law applies to proceedings in general courts unless the Criminal Procedure Act (689/1997) or another law says otherwise. This section defines the general courts as the district courts, courts of appeal, and the Supreme Court. The district court may sit with only the chair in certain criminal cases, and the court of appeal president decides referrals to plenary or extended sessions. The Supreme Court generally sits with five members, unless another composition is provided by law. Certain leave-to-appeal matters are decided by a division of two or three members, and some interim matters may be handled by one member.
