Statute overview

About this statute

Heading only: “18 kap. Dagböcker, sjöförklaring och besiktning.” Certain vessels must keep specified logbooks, with the type of logbook depending on vessel type, route, size, passenger count, and radio equipment requirements. Logbooks must be kept and retained for set periods, and the ship owner is responsible for preserving them. The ship’s master must ensure the required logbook is kept on board, entries are made in order and approved, corrections are recorded properly, and entries must not be erased or obscured. Certain ship, engine, combined, fishing-vessel, and radio logs must include specified operational information; personal data in those entries is governed by the Personal Data Act; and the Transport Safety Agency may issue more detailed rules on log contents and attachments.
