About this statute

If a firearm covered by a permit lacks a serial or identification number, the police department must send it to the Police Board for marking before the permit details are recorded. If marking would reduce a firearm’s significant collector value, the police department may grant the permit without marking. An application for a European firearms passport must be made in writing, and Customs must include specified permit-holder and firearms information in a notification. An application for a weapons permit must be made in writing and include the listed information; the applicant, and in some cases associations/foundations, must also attach supporting documents, and the permit authority may request additional explanations. When a gun permit certificate is issued, the permit authority must give instructions on safe storage for firearms, parts, ammunition, and especially dangerous projectiles. A person resident abroad must apply in writing for an acquisition permit and include specified personal details and item details in the application.
