Statute overview

About this statute

Chapter 7 on consumer credit. For applying section 40, an identifier that lets someone use an account, other financial service, or financial instrument is treated like an identifier for using credit. Before entering a consumer credit agreement, the credit provider must carefully check the applicant’s identity. If the identity check is electronic, the provider must use an identification method that meets the requirements of section 8 of the strong authentication and trusted electronic services law (617/2009). A consumer may be liable for unauthorized use of a credit card or other credit identifier in limited cases, and liability is capped at 50 euros in some cases. This section names the authorities that supervise compliance with this chapter.
