Statute overview

About this statute

A fixed-term public service employment may be used without the usual grounded reason if the appointee has been continuously unemployed for 12 months; the job may last up to one year and be renewed twice, with short breaks of up to two weeks not breaking unemployment. This section lets an employer set a probation period in certain employment relationships, limits its length, allows extension for incapacity or family leave, and lets either side end the relationship immediately during probation, subject to a ban on discriminatory or irrelevant grounds. A statement of the service relationship terms must be given by the end of the first full pay period. Arbetsgivaren ska ge tjänsteinnehavaren förhandsinformation och skriftligt permitteringsbeslut i tid, och kan i vissa fall erbjuda sysselsättningsfrämjande träning eller utbildning. Before ending a service relationship, the employer must let the service holder be heard on the reasons and record the decision and reasons in the minutes; the service holder also has the right to use an assistant when heard.
