Statute overview

About this statute

Chapter 1: General provisions. This provision says the law applies to establishing maternity and to revoking maternity. A person who has given birth to a child is the child’s mother. A woman who consented to assisted reproduction may be established as the child’s mother alongside the birth mother, unless paternity has been or can be established. The magistrate or a court makes that decision. A child welfare officer must conduct a maternity investigation for a child under 18 if any of the listed conditions are met.
