About this statute
This chapter contains general provisions. The law’s purpose is to protect health from harm caused by radiation and to prevent and reduce environmental and other damage caused by radiation. This section says the law applies to radiation activities, existing exposure situations, and radiation-emergency situations, and to some non-ionizing medical and occupational exposure only if the law specifically says so. This section says other laws govern several related matters, including nuclear energy use, mine safety, worker protection, occupational health monitoring, housing water/radiation exposure, building projects, environmental protection, waste handling, and transport of radioactive substances. This section defines key terms used in the statute, including dosimetritjänst and dosgräns.
