Statute overview

About this statute

A sufficient connection is deemed to exist if a person aged 18 but under 22 has written to a Finnish mission, the Digital and Population Data Services Agency, or the State Department of Åland saying they want to keep their Finnish citizenship. Myndigheten för digitalisering och befolkningsdata eller Statens ämbetsverk på Åland must record certain citizenship decisions in the population information system and inform the person. A party must provide known information about the acquisition or loss of citizenship and help obtain needed documents when reasonably required. Two authorities must notify the Finnish Immigration Service about a child born in Finland when the parents are recorded as stateless or their citizenship is unknown.
