Statute overview

About this statute

If a firearm or firearm part made, acquired, or modified under a permit has no serial or identification number, the police district must send it to the National Police Board for marking before permit details are entered. The National Police Board may allow a permit without marking for historically significant firearms or parts if marking would reduce historical value. The section explains when a firearm or air weapon counts as deactivated, and when a firearm does not count as deactivated. Firearms and firearm parts are destroyed by being handed over to the police for destruction, and the police must record the destruction in the weapon register system. An application for a firearms-trade permit must be made in writing and include specified details and attachments.
