Statute overview
About this statute
The support replaces loss of income from unpaid absence from work to arrange a child’s care, and also in some cases when a person arriving in Finland from abroad must be absent from work without pay under quarantine-like conditions. Some parents, guardians, spouses/cohabitants, and certain other carers may receive support when they are on unpaid leave in Finland to care for an eligible child because of the coronavirus situation; some arriving workers on unpaid leave for quarantine-like conditions may also get support. The Ministry of Social Affairs and Health has general steering and leadership under the Act, and the Social Insurance Institution of Finland is responsible for implementing it. The applicant must apply for support to the Social Insurance Institution and provide required documents and other information. Support is set at 28.94 euros per weekday, and weekdays exclude Sundays, public holidays, and holiday-like days.
