Statute overview

About this statute

The section defines “skyddsarrangemang” and allows certain nuclear waste to be finally disposed of in an EU Member State or an accepting third country if Finland has a valid agreement with the receiving state. The provision requires nuclear operators and applicants to maintain adequate security and preparedness arrangements, decommissioning plans, security regulations, and vetted personnel; it also gives security personnel certain inspection, detention, search, and limited force powers. A permit application for a project under subsection 4 must be publicly announced, kept available for at least 14 days, and also notified by the municipality. You may request reconsideration of an inspection body’s decision. Some State Council decisions cannot be appealed. License holders must update older safety regulations to match section 7 o and submit them to the Radiation and Nuclear Safety Authority within one year.
