Statute overview

About this statute

This section says the Ministry of Education and Culture provides funding for certain national art institutions. Nationalgalleriet, Finlands nationalopera och -balett, and Finlands Nationalteater are granted funding for specified activities, and the opera/ballet and theatre institutions must give special attention to promoting domestic art and high-quality performances nationwide. Ministry and each national art institution must agree on the institution’s goals, monitoring, and evaluation for a set number of years; the chairperson and director-general sign the agreement for the institution. The Ministry of Education and Culture must fund national art institutions, adjust the annual appropriation, and compensate certain non-VAT-liable institutions for VAT on purchases and rents. It may also attach conditions and limits to the funding. National art institutions must give the ministry information about their activities and other information needed for follow-up and steering, in the way the ministry decides.
