The Order lets the Department of Finance and Personnel issue specified sums from the Consolidated Fund, borrow up to a stated limit subject to paragraph (2), and repay borrowed money by no later than 31 March 1989.
The Appropriation (Northern Ireland) Order 1988 Made Coming into Operation At the Court at Buckingham Palace, the 23rd day of March 1988 Present, The Queen’s Most Excellent Majesty in Council Whereas a draft of this Order has been approved by a resolution of each House of Parliament: Now, therefore, Her Majesty, in exercise of the powers conferred by paragraph 1 of Schedule 1 to the Northern Ireland Act 1974 and of all other powers enabling Her in that behalf, is pleased, by and with the advice of Her Privy Council, to order, and it is hereby ordered, as follows:— This Order may be cited as the Appropriation (Northern Ireland) Order 1988 and shall come into operation forthwith. The Interpretation Act (Northern Ireland) 1954 shall apply to Article 1 and the following provisions of this Order as it applies to a Measure of the Northern Ireland Assembly. The Department of Finance and Personnel may issue out of the Consolidated Fund and apply towards making good the supply granted to Her Majesty for the service of the year ending on 31st March 1988 the sum of seventy-six million and eighty-three thousand pounds. The Department of Finance and Personnel may issue out of the Consolidated Fund and apply towards making good the supply granted to Her Majesty for the service of the year ending on 31st March 1989 the sum of one thousand five hundred and ninety-eight million and fifty-seven thousand, two hundred pounds. Subject to paragraph (2), the Department of Finance and Personnel may borrow on the credit of the aforesaid sums, any sum or sums not exceeding in the whole eight hundred and thirty-seven million pounds. Any money so borrowed shall be repaid, with any interest due thereon, out of the Consolidated Fund at any date not later than 31st March 1989. The sum granted by Article 3 (1) out of the Consolidated Fund is appropriated for the several services and purposes expressed in Part I of the Schedule. In addition to the sum granted by Article 3(1) out of the Consolidated Fund, the sums specified in the third column of Part I of the Schedule may be applied as appropriations in aid of the grants for the services in connection with which those sums are specified. The sums already authorised to be appropriated in aid for the year ending on 31st March 1988 shall be decreased by the sums specified in the fourth column of Part I of the Schedule for the services in connection with which those sums are specified. The sum granted by Article 3(2) out of the Consolidated Fund is appropriated for the several services and purposes expressed in Part II of the Schedule. SCHEDULE of supplementary sums granted, and of increases or decreases of the sums which may be applied as appropriations in aid in addition thereto, to defray the charges of the several services herein particularly mentioned, which will come in course of payment during the year ending on 31st March 1988 viz:— SCHEDULE of sums granted on account of or towards defraying the charges of the several services for which Sums on Account are required for the year ending on 31st March 1989 viz:— (This note is not part of the Order) This Order authorises the issue out of the Consolidated Fund of Northern Ireland of a further sum for the year ending 31st March 1988 and of sums on account for the year ending on 31st March 1989 and app.ropriates those sums for specified services in Northern Ireland.
