The Ministry of Agriculture may give grants for fishing-vessel-related spending, subject to approval by the Ministry of Finance and the Act’s conditions.
Fishing Vessels (Grants) Act (Northern Ireland) 1967 An Act to make provision for financial aid towards expenditure in relation to fishing vessels and for purposes connected therewith. Subject to the provisions of this Act, the Ministry of Agriculture may, in accordance with a scheme made by that Ministry with the approval of the Ministry of Finance, make out of moneys provided by Parliament to any person carrying on or proposing to carry on a business in the fishing industry in Northern Ireland a grant towards so much of the expenditure incurred by that person— in providing a fishing vessel; or in providing an engine for a fishing vessel; or in improving a sea fishing vessel; for use for the purposes of that business as may be approved by the Ministry of Agriculture in pursuance of the scheme. [ Subject to subsection (2A),] no grant shall be made in pursuance of a scheme under this Act in respect of expenditure incurred in providing any vessel, engine, part, equipment or apparatus which appears to the Ministry of Agriculture to be second-hand. [ (2A) A grant may be made in pursuance of a scheme under this Act in respect of that part of the expenditure (approved as mentioned in subsection (1)), incurred in providing a second-hand vessel, which is attributable to any liability to repay— a grant under this Act or any other statutory provision; or a grant under the law of any other part of the United Kingdom; in respect of the vessel or any engine, part, equipment or apparatus therein.] A scheme made under this Act— may provide for— repayment of grant in specified circumstances; the imposition of penalties in respect of contraventions of provisions of the scheme; Para.(b) rep. by 1979 NI 12 shall be subject to affirmative resolution. In this Act— “fishing vessel” means a vessel which is provided for use in catching fish and is primarily so used; “improving” in relation to a fishing vessel includes the acquisition, installation, modification, renewal or replacement of any part of such a vessel or of any relevant equipment required for or installed or used on such a vessel.
