The Minister of Finance must appoint a Government Chemist for Northern Ireland, and the Ministry of Finance may make regulations about how the role’s powers and duties are carried out.
Administrative Provisions Act (Northern Ireland) 1928 An Act to amend the enactments which relate to the making of the appointments of Official Arbitrators, the Government Chemist, Auditors of Educational Endowments, and Officers for the purpose of obtaining probate or letters of administration in the case of small estates. S. 1 rep. by 1964 c. 29 (NI) The Minister of Finance shall appoint an officer to be the Government Chemist for Northern Ireland, and may remove such officer. Subs. (2) rep. by 1958 c. 27 (NI) The Ministry of Finance may, by regulations, provide for the exercise and performance by the Chief Agricultural Analyst for Northern Ireland of any powers and duties of the Government Chemist for Northern Ireland, which may be prescribed in such regulations; and so long as such regulations are in force the said Chief Agricultural Analyst shall, for the purpose of the prescribed powers and duties, be deemed to be the Government Chemist for Northern Ireland, and the provisions of this section and of any other enactment relating to the Government Chemist for Northern Ireland shall have effect accordingly. The Ministry of Finance shall, after consultation with the Ministries of Home Affairs and Agriculture, make such regulations as are necessary for giving effect to this section, and shall give such public notice of any appointment, place or other matter prescribed by the regulations as the Ministry of Finance thinks necessary. Nothing in this section shall prejudice the making of any arrangement under section sixty-three of the Government of Ireland Act, 1920 , for the exercise and performance by the Principal Government Chemist at the Government Laboratory for Great Britain, on behalf of the Government Chemist for Northern Ireland, of any powers and duties of the last-mentioned officer.
