Statute overview

About this statute

This section establishes the Fair Wages and Salaries Commission and gives it corporate status. The Commission’s object is to implement public service pay policy fairly and transparently, advise Government on pay-related matters, help ensure decisions are carried out, and negotiate compensation funded from public money. The Commission must carry out the listed public service pay and job-evaluation functions, but not the determination of emoluments under article 71 of the Constitution. This Act applies to the public service, except where article 71 of the Constitution provides otherwise. The Commission is governed by a Board, and the President appoints the Board members. The Board must carry out the Commission’s functions.
