Statute overview

About this statute

The Ghana Highway Authority continues to exist as a body corporate and can sue, be sued, own property, make contracts, and acquire land when the stated conditions are met. The Authority is responsible for administering, controlling, developing, and maintaining trunk roads and related facilities, subject to Ministry policy. The Authority must manage trunk roads and related works, and the Minister may give general directions to the Board in the public interest. The Authority may delegate trunk road control, maintenance, protection, and ancillary functions, but only with written ministerial approval and, for District Assemblies, after prior consultation with the Minister responsible for Local Government and Rural Development. The Authority is governed by a Board of Directors, appointed by the president in consultation with the Council of State, and the Board must secure effective implementation of the Authority’s functions.
