Statute overview

About this statute

The Minister exercises management of Stool lands. The President may handle legal proceedings about Stool land for the Republic, instead of the Stool concerned, and may compromise or settle those proceedings. Questions about whether land is in a particular traditional area must be referred to the Minister, who decides them after consulting the Traditional Council. The President may require a Stool to declare its interest in land, and the Stool must send full particulars to the Minister within three months after written notice. The President may grant certain land leases in Kumasi, and free-plot holders may transfer or mortgage the plot only with the Minister’s written consent and within the section’s limits.
