About this statute

This section establishes the Immigration Service under the Act, in line with article 190 of the Constitution. The Service includes people holding the posts listed in the Schedule and any other persons employed by the Service. The Service’s purpose is to manage migration effectively and contribute to national security. The Service must examine travel documents, enforce immigration and non-Ghanaian employment laws, manage borders, and issue visas and residence or work permits through the Comptroller-General or an authorised representative. The Service is governed by a Council made up of specified members, and the President appoints the Council members.
