Statute overview

About this statute

This section establishes the National Road Safety Authority as a body corporate and gives it power to deal with property and contracts while doing its functions. The Authority’s object is to reduce road traffic crashes, fatalities, and injuries. The Authority must carry out a wide range of road safety functions, including planning, education, coordination, standards, compliance, complaints handling, and monitoring. The Authority is governed by a Board, whose members are appointed by the President, and the Board must ensure the Authority performs its functions properly and effectively. Board members serve for three years, may resign, and can be replaced when vacancies arise; the Director-General is exempt from subsection (1).
