Statute overview

About this statute

This Ordinance regulates local vessels in Hong Kong, including certification, licensing, passenger carriage, surveyor authorization, and competency certificates. Local vessels covered by Part VA must have qualifying third-party insurance before use in Hong Kong waters, and owners, charterers, coxswains, insurers, and claim defendants have related document and information duties. This part lets the Director and authorized officers control, detain, inspect, and in some cases remove local vessels, and it imposes reporting and compliance duties on vessel owners, agents, and coxswains. This Part lets certain listed documents and specified plans be handled electronically, and requires the Director to record some electronic actions in the e-document database.
