Statute overview

About this statute

This Ordinance sets up rural representative offices, election rules, voter registration, and election administration for villages and market towns. This provision sets rules for Rural Area elections, including nomination, withdrawal, nomination subscriptions, voting, candidate oaths, election officer duties, vote secrecy, and some offences and court powers. The Secretary may make regulations, and the Chief Justice may make rules, for the ordinance’s operation; the Secretary may also amend listed Schedules by Gazette order. This schedule lists indigenous villages and, for each one, the date the representative office was established, the number of persons to hold the office, and the relevant Rural Committee. This part lists rural committees and village communities, including how many representatives each community has and when some offices were established.
