About this statute

This part sets the Act’s title and extent, gives the Central Government power to appoint the commencement date, and lays out the main rules for chit business, including sanction, registration, agreement terms, records, capital, security, and foreman duties. This part requires subscribers and the foreman to follow payment, transfer, meeting, filing, and record-keeping rules, and gives the Registrar inspection and enforcement powers. The State Government may make rules for giving effect to this Act, after consulting the Reserve Bank and notifying them in the Official Gazette. Every rule must be laid before the State Legislature soon after it is made.
