P. ACT NO. 25 OF 1956] [Passed in Hindi by the Uttar Pradesh Legislative Council on March 9, 1956 and by the Uttar Pradesh Legislative Assembly on July 17, 1956. ] [Received the assent of the Governor on August 2, 1956, under Article 200 of “the Constitution of India” and was published in the Uttar Pradesh Gazette Extraordinary, dated August 4, 1956.] An Act to empower the revenue official in the Janusar-Bawar Pargana of the Tehri- Garhwal to exercise the power of a Police officer-in-charge of a police-station. Whereas it is expedient to provide for the acquisition of rights, title and interest of the intermediaries between the State and tiller of the soil in Pargana Jaunsar Bawar of Tehri-Garhwal and for the introduction of land reforms therein. It is hereby enacted in the Seventh Year of the Republic of India, as follows : -- Short title, 1. (1) This Act may be called the Tehri Garhwal Revenue Officials of (Special extent and Powers) Act, 1956. commencement (2) It shall extend to the whole of Tehri-Garhwal District. (3) They shall come into force at once. Investing 2. (1) Where the State Government so declares by an Order, Lekhpal, Patwari or Revenue such other Revenue Officials, as may be specified shall, subject to such Officials in respects and conditions as may be specified, exercise such of the powers and certain areas perform such of the functions and duties, as may be specified of a Police with the Officer or an Officer-in-charge of a police station under any law for the time powers of an being in force notwithstanding anything inconsistent therewith contained in Officer-in- such law. charge of a Police Station (2) An Order made under sub-section (1) may contain such incidental and consequential provisions as the State Government may consider necessary for carrying into effect the provisions of the declaration made under sub-section (1). (3) A Lekhpal, Patwari or the revenue official specified in the declaration under sub-section (1) shall not merely by reason of exercising the powers of a police officer or of the Officer-in-charge of a police station in pursuance of any order made under sub-section (1) be deemed to be a police officer enrolled under the Police Act, 1861. Order under 3. (1) A copy of every Order, proposed to be issued under section 2, shall section 2 to be be laid in draft before both Houses of the State Legislature for a period of not laid before the less than thirty days while they are in session and if within that period either State House disapproves of the issue of the Order or approval of such issue only Legislature with modifications, the Order shall not be issued or as the case may required on by both the Houses. (2) Every such Order shall be published in the official Gazette and shall take effect from the date of such publication. 1.
