AN ACT further to amend the Guwahati Municipal Corporation Act, 1969. Preamble Whereas it is expedient further to emend the Assam Guwahati Municipal Corporation Act, 1 9 6 9, ^ct-1 °* hereinafter referred to as the principal Act; It is hereby enacted in the Forty-sixth Year of the Republic of India as follow:— Short title, 1. (1) This Act may be called the Guwahati extent and Municipal Corporation (Amendment) Act, commence 1995 ment. (2) It shall have the like extent as the principal Act. (3) It shall come into force at once. Amendment 2. In the principal Act, in section 5, in sub of section 5. section (1) (a),— (i) in 3ub-clause (v), for the existing third proviso, the following provisos shall be substituted, namely;— “Provided further that the office of the Mayor shall be reserved for the Scheduled Castes, the Scheduled Tribes and women on roster basis, and six percent, four percent and forty percent of the roster points shall be reserved for the Scheduled Castes, the Scheduled Tribes and women respectively in the manner set out in fifth Schedule: Provided further that the State Government may from time to time review the implementa tion of reservation and take adequate measures including increase or decrease of percentage men- tioged in the preceding proviso,” (ii) for sub-clause (ix), the following shall be substitued, namely: — “(ix) The term of office of the Mayor and the 3- Deputy Mayor sbaii be one year from the c’atc of their elections.” THE ASSAM GAZETTE EXTRAORDINARY.
