Statute overview

About this statute

This Act gives legal effect to electronic records and digital signatures, sets rules for government electronic dealings, and regulates Certifying Authorities and subscribers. This part sets up the Cyber Appellate Tribunal, gives appeal and procedural rules, and creates offences and penalties for several computer-related acts. Courts may presume certain electronic records, digital signatures, messages, and certificates are valid or unchanged in defined situations, and no one can be forced to produce records another person could refuse to produce without that person's consent.
