Statute overview

About this statute

The Act requires cinematograph exhibitions to be licensed, lets the Government control licensing and suspend films in some cases, and sets fines for contraventions. The licensee must follow approved seat classifications and admission rates, seek written approval before changing rates, and comply with any government order changing rates. Ticket purchasers may not resell admission tickets for profit, and doing so can lead to a fine up to 200 rupees. Cinema seating, exits, ventilation, fire safety, and operator controls must meet the stated rules. The licensee must follow several cinema-licence rules, including advance film synopsis filing, accident reporting, ticket controls, film certification checks, advertising limits, and transfer restrictions.
