About this statute

This provision states where the Act applies, who is exempt, how rent can be increased, and when landlords or tenants can seek or resist possession, repairs, or eviction. Landlords must give written receipts, register post-commencement letting/licence agreements, and must not turn residential premises commercial or cut off essential services without cause. The State Government may make rules for this Act, and it may issue removal-of-difficulty orders for up to two years after commencement. Earlier rent-control laws are repealed, but pending matters and certain existing appointments, rules, notifications, and prosecutions continue as saved by the provision.
