This Act gives legal recognition to electronic records and electronic signatures, sets rules for government use of electronic forms, and regulates certifying authorities and related licences. This segment sets rules for electronic and digital signature certificates, subscriber key handling, information retention, government directions, and several computer-related offences and penalties. This provision sets criminal penalties for unauthorized disclosure of protected information, false or fraudulent publication of electronic signature certificates, and also gives the Central Government and other authorities rule-making, enforcement, and investigation powers.
